First Steps in Railway Modelling the Bachmann Way

The late Cyril Freezer produced First Steps in Railway Modelling over 25 years ago. Cyrils’s son Nick has worked with Bachmann to completely update the book. The 1988 original, as would be expected from the former editor of the Railway Modeller provided a completely practical guide to starting out as a newcomer to railway modelling. Nick’s update means the book remains relevant today providing a brilliant first steps guide to all the many complexities of the hobby, from baseboard construction, planning and laying out the track, to creating realistic scenery.

First Steps in Railway Modelling the Bachmann Way appears in colour for the first time with the inclusion of many new pictures, the main change is the inclusion of an additional chapter on the one major area of omission from the original; the arrival of Digital Control Command (DCC) which has rapidly become the standard on model railway layouts. Apart from the new section giving practical advice on implementing DCC, there is additional material on weathering and new track plans to bring some of Cyril’s designs up to modern standards.

The original was always a brilliant buy for all those wanting a practical, hands on, how-to guide to the subject. The update, with the help of the Bachmann name is more than likely to follow in its footsteps.
